Queen Camilla makes history as the first woman appointed Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom

Queen Camilla has been appointed Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom, making her the first woman in British history to hold this honorary and prestigious military rank.

The announcement, made by the Ministry of Defence, marks a momentous occasion in the nation’s military and royal history.

The Queen, known for her dedication to charitable causes and her deep interest in the armed forces, will now be responsible for representing the Royal Navy at the highest level. Her appointment is a monumental break from centuries of tradition, where the highest ranks of military leadership have always been held by men.

Her Majesty’s new role will see her playing an active part in advocating for the Navy’s growth, and fostering international relationships with allies across the globe.

Her appointment follows her ongoing advocacy for veterans’ rights and her support of the armed forces throughout her time as consort to King Charles III.

General Sir Gwyn Jenkins, the First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff, said the honorary position would “further enhance Her Majesty’s relationship with the service”.

The Queen’s appointment will be formally confirmed during a visit to Devonport naval base.
