Princess Elisabeth celebrates birthday in new portraits

Princess Elisabeth turns 23 today and the Belgian Royal Family has marked the occasion with a new birthday portrait from the United States.

The future queen of Belgium is currently studying at Harvard in Massachusetts, and so the Belgian Royal Court wrote “Thank you (from the USA) for the birthday wishes!”

Earlier this summer, Princess Elisabeth graduated from Lincoln College, Oxford with upper second class honours in a Bachelor’s degree in history and politics. At Harvard, she’s studying for a Master’s in Public Policy.

The future queen has also completed her military training, having spent three years at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels and attaining the rank of Second Lieutenant in all three branches of the Belgian Armed Forces.

Princess Elisabeth only carries out the rare royal engagement these days, mostly attending National Day celebrations in July. Her gradual climb towards full-time duties has seen her attend royal weddings and birthday celebrations in Jordan, Denmark and Norway, as well as attend coronation-related events in the United Kingdom.
