Princess Anne says a very polite no to a command from The Queen

The Princess Royal knows the regal rules and when Queen Camilla graciously suggested she go against them, there was an equally gracious no from Anne.

The Queen and the Princess were at the University of London’s Senate House where HRH presented Her Majesty with an honorary doctorate.

Princess Anne is the Chancellor of the University and was overseeing the ceremony. And so, The Queen stepped aside at one point to allow the Chancellor, her sister-in-law, to enter a room first.

It was a sweet gesture from Queen Camilla which raised an appreciative smile from Princess Anne. However, this Princess is most definitely one for royal rules. The smile remained in place as did the Princess who stayed put to allow The Queen to take the lead role. HM before HRH and no exceptions, not even when an HM suggests it themselves.

However, there was little Princess Anne could do to avoid another moment when she took the lead over The Queen. The presentation of the doctorate took place with the Princess on stage as Chancellor and the new Doctor of Literature, HM Queen Camilla, standing below her.

The Queen and the Princess later posed for photos where they shared another joke. No royal rules at risk there.
