No return to royal duties for the Duke of Sussex

There will be no return to royal duties for Prince Harry despite newspaper reports that he was willing to take on some engagements during The King’s treatment for cancer.

The Times reported that friends of the Duke had indicated he would be open to a temporary return to official duties while his father is treated. However, the Telegraph now reports that this has been ruled out by Buckingham Palace.

The newspaper says the terms negotiated at the Sandringham Summit, held after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their wish to step back as full time working royals, rule out any official royal role for the couple and that hasn’t changed.

It’s understood that The King and the Prince of Wales maintain that the half in, half out model proposed when the decision was first made public remains ‘inappropriate’.

The Duke of Sussex has spoken in recent days of his gratitude at being able to fly to London to see his father after he learned King Charles has cancer.

Speaking to Good Morning America, the Duke also said that illness in families can help bring members back together.

Prince Harry was speaking as he saw preparations for the first winter edition of the Invictus Games which will take place in Canada in 2025.
