New official portrait of King Charles III to be displayed in public buildings

A brand new official portrait of King Charles III has been made available to all public buildings in the UK.

The photo, taken by Hugo Burnand, can be displayed in a wide range of places including police stations, schools, local councils and fire stations.

It is made available for free by the government.

In the image, His Majesty is seen at Windsor Castle wearing the uniform of the Admiral of the Fleet and the Collar of the Order of the Garter.

The photo was taken in 2023.

Public buildings in the UK have long displayed portraits of the Monarch. However, there is nothing compulsory about the use of the photo, it is entirely a matter of choice.

The government scheme to provide portraits of King Charles III has cost £8 million.
