King Felipe takes up royal baton at Olympics

The Spanish King is certainly making the most of his time in Paris and is meeting as many Spanish athletes and volunteers as possible.

On day 10, King Felipe first watched the Spanish team claim a victory over the United States in Women’s 3×3 Basketball to advance to the finals. He then saw runner Daniel Arce qualify for the final of the 3000 Metre Hurdle event.

He finished out Monday watching Spain face Belgium in Women’s Hockey; unfortunately, Spain lost 2-0 and did not advance.

And of course, on Monday he took time to head back to the Olympic Village to meet more Spanish athletes and the staff, volunteers, and visitors that are supporting them.

King Felipe then snuck away from the Spanish events to take in the Men’s 3×3 Basketball final between France and the Netherlands on Tuesday. The game was particularly special as he was able to watch the game with Princess Catharina Amalia, the heir to the Dutch throne.

The Spanish and Dutch royal families are particularly close friends, and Princess Amalia just spent a year living in Madrid. Both King Felipe and Princess Amalia went through the whole run of emotions at the exciting game before hugging over the Dutch victory.
