
King Charles and Queen Camilla have spoken of their profound sadness after 11 people were killed when a car was driven into a crowd in Vancouver, Canada.
Their Majesties said the attack, at Filipino festival in Vancouver, had left them saddened and that they sent ”our deepest possible sympathy at a most agonising time for so many in Canada.’‘
On the evening of April 26, eleven people at the Lapu Lapu festival were killed when a man drove an SUV into a busy crowd. They ranged in age from five to 65. There are also dozens more people who have been injured.
Buckingham Palace released a statement within hours, sharing Their Majesties’ shock and sadness at the tragedy. The King said “Both my wife and I were profoundly saddened to learn of the dreadful attack and utterly tragic loss of life in Vancouver, which took place as the Filipino community came together to mark the celebration of one of their most special festivals. Our hearts and prayers go out to all those whose lives have been shattered by such a desperate tragedy and we send our deepest possible sympathy at a most agonising time for so many in Canada.”
The festival is a major event for the Filipino community in Vancouver, with thousands of attendees every year.
The Vancouver Police Department announced that a 30 year old man is in custody, though he has not been charged yet.
