King Charles and Queen Camilla postpone State Visit to the Vatican

The King and Queen have postponed their State Visit to the Vatican as Pope Francis continues to recover from double pneumonia.

King Charles and Queen Camilla were due to visit the Holy See in April but the trip has now been put back as the Pope recuperates after a long hospital stay.

Buckingham Palace announced that the State Visit was postponed ”by mutual agreement” and explained that ”medical advice has now suggested that Pope Francis would benefit from an extended period of rest and recuperation.”

The State Visit to Italy, set to take place at the same time, will continue.

The King and Queen sent warm wishes to Pope Francis in his convalescence and said they looked forward to making the State Visit at another time, when he is well again.

Pope Francis spent five weeks in hospital after developing pneumonia.
