Infanta Sofia chooses symbolic outfit for first solo engagement

Infanta Sofia of Spain visited an exhibition of work from the first annual photography competition to bear her name and made a strong and touching statement with her wardrobe choices for the day.

Sofia, 17, attended the temporary exhibition for the competition which was launched to help celebrate and showcase Spanish monuments, historical spaces, and works of arts.

Infanta Sofia presented the three first place awards. Antonio Farto Casado won the first place prize in the ‘Palaces and Monasteries” category with “Through the Window”, Emilie Payn won in the “Natural Spaces” category for ‘I say this out of envy of the trip to San Lorenzo‘, and Teresa Dorado Jiménez’s ‘Reflections of Faith‘ won in the “Works of Art” category.

For this highly anticipated first solo engagement, Infanta Sofia made a bold sartorial statement and wore a bright white double-breasted blazer from The Limited, and the coordinating wide-legged trousers.

It was immediately seen as a nod to her mother. The future Queen Letizia wore a white suit when Prince Felipe announced their engagement.

It became a family trend. Sofia is following in both her mother and her elder sister’s footsteps with the choice of a white suit for one of her first solo engagements.

Princess Leonor also wore a white suit when she formally took the Oath of the Constitution.

The white suit remains a power move for the women of the Spanish Royal Family.
