‘Incredibly hard to sit still’ – King Charles reveals the songs that always gets him dancing

King Charles has revealed the songs that always gets him to his feet – although he admits the process of hitting the dancefloor is getting slower as he is getting older.

The King has shared some of his favourite tunes on Apple Music and at the top of the list are hits from two of the most famous female performers of all.

It turns out that His Majesty is a big Kylie fan. And, with apologies to Little Eva, his must listen from Ms Minogue is her version of ‘The Locomotion’ – King Charles says that once that’s on, it is ”incredibly hard to sit still’‘.

Diana Ross has the same effect. The King saves his favourite song until the end of the special podcast when he reveals that top of his pops is ‘Upside Down’. He continues ”when I was much younger, it was impossible not to get up and dance when it was played. And I wonder if I can still – just – manage it”.

Charles III chose his favourite songs for ‘The King’s Music Room’ on Apple Music which was released on March 10 2025, Commonwealth Day. His rundown was recorded in his office at Buckingham Palace and covers decades of music.

As well as sharing his top music, King Charles also reveals why the songs mean so much to him and the Commonwealth features heavily in his picks.

Talking about ‘The Locomotion’, The King recalls how Kylie came to St. James’s Palace in 2012 to perform it as celebrations continued through the year for the Diamond Jubilee, adding ”we had a large reception for Australians in the United Kingdom and as Kylie is an ambassador for my now King’s Trust, she very generously agreed to come and perform.”

You can hear all King Charles III’s favourite music in ‘The King’s Music Room’ which is available now on Apple Music.
