
Queen Margrethe of Denmark is in hospital after suffering heart problems.
She was taken to the Rigshopitalet in Copenhagen after becoming unwell.
In a brief statement, issued soon after her admission on May 14, the Danish royal house said that Queen Margrethe was tired ”but in good spirits” after her admission.
It confirmed she had had heart issues, thought to be angina, and would be in hospital for several days.
Angina is when the muscles in the heart don’t get enough blood and start to cramp. It causes pain, pressure and breathlessness..
The royal house said that Margrethe’s treatment and observation would continue over thew eekend.
It added that it would only speak when there are updates.
Queen Margrethe, 86, has had a busy public agenda in recent weeks. She has carried out a number of engagements and recently travelled to Sweden for the 80th birthday celebrations of King Carl SVI Gustaf.
Margrethe reigned in Denmark from 1972 until 2024 when she abdicated in favour of her son, Frederik X.
She remains a hugely popular and highly respected member of the royal family and is widely admired for her reign and the changes to both monarchy and society that took place during her 52 years on the throne.
