Crown Prince Haakon speaks after stepson’s arrest

Although Crown Prince Haakon of Norway is now in Paris for the Olympic Games, he is still dealing with family matters. He has now made comments on his stepson’s arrest.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s 27 year old son, Marius Borg Høiby , was arrested after an incident on 4 August where he reportedly attacked a woman both physically and verbally in his apartment. The woman sought treatment after for a concussion.

Høiby was charged with bodily harm and criminal damage and reportedly spent nearly 30 hours in police custody.

The Crown Princess was supposed to be in Paris with Crown Prince Haakon for the Olympics but instead remained in Norway.

Crown Prince Haakon made brief comments on his stepson’s situation when meeting with reporters.  He said ”As in all families, it’s important to be there… So we decided that this time, she should stay home… It is a serious matter when the police are involved, as they are. At the same time, I do not think it is right for me to get involved in the case now.

The Crown Prince is representing the Norwegian Royal Family in Paris solo as he cheers on Norwegian athletes.

Høiby is a private citizen and as he is Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s son from a previous relationship, he is not in line for the Norwegian throne.
