A rose for the Princess of Wales: Catherine’s rose celebrates the power of nature

A rose has been named in honour of the Princess of Wales, to celebrate the healing power of nature.

Catherine’s Rose also celebrates the positive impact that being outside has on both mental and physical health.

It’s been developed by Harkness Roses and money from its sale will go to the Royal Marsden Cancer charity which helps patients across the country who are living with cancer. The Princess of Wales underwent cancer treatment at the Royal Marsden Hospital.

The funds will be used for a unique training programme for clinical teams across the country. It’s a specialist prehabilitation and rehabilitation programme to help patients who need intensive support live well.

The new rose is a coral pink colour and highly scented with its growers describing its smell as a mix of Turkish delight and mango.

Dame Cally Palmer, Chief Executive for the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, said ”“as a specialist cancer centre, The Royal Marsden’s mission is to ensure every patient has the care and support they need to achieve the best outcome and patient experience.

The Princess of Wales has spoken passionately about how important nature and being outside has been to her as she was treated for cancer.

The rose has been named by the Royal Horticultural Society and will be available to buy online from Harkness Roses with delivery of the first bare roots set for autumn in time for gardeners to get them ready for the summer of 2026.
