Arise Sir Lewis Hamilton – The Queen to knight Formula One’s most successful driver

Lewis Hamilton will be knighted in the 2021 New Year Honours list recognising his contributions to the sport of Formula One.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Mr Hamilton will be among the names to feature in the soon-to-be released honours list following his impressive history making feat just last week when he won his seventh world championship.

Mr Hamilton’s win in the Turkish Grand Prix meant he became the most successful ever Formula One driver, matching the record previously set by Michael Schumacher.

The 35-year-old has been previously touted for one of the country’s highest honours, but controversy surrounding his tax affairs have previously dominated the headlines.

However, according to The Sun, the Honours Committee have scrutinised his taxes and have deemed his affairs “all in order”.

One of Mr Hamilton’s friends said: “This is an honour that has eluded Lewis for so many years.

“It marks an incredible end to the most wonderful season.

Mr Hamilton was previously awarded with an MBE following his first title win 12 years ago.
