Westminster Abbey announces when it will close its doors to prepare for the Coronation

Westminster Abbey

Westminster Abbey is being prepared for the Coronation of King Charles III and it’s now been announced when its doors will close ahead of the ceremont.

The Abbey will shut its doors to the public on April 25th 2023, twelve days before King Charles and Queen Camilla are crowned within its ancient walls.

It will open again on May 8th 2023 when hundreds are expected to make their way to the Abbey to be among the first to visit following this latest Coronation.

While it is shut, services will be held in nearby St. Margaret’s Church until May 2nd 2023. Then the entire area around the Abbey will be closed as final preparations are made.

King Charles will be the fortieth Monarch to be crowned at Westminster Abbey since the Norman Conquest. William the Conqueror was crowned there on December 25th 1066.
