The Queen’s Green Canopy is extended to allow people to pay tribute to Elizabeth II

The Queen and the Prince of Wales plant a tree at Balmoral for the Jubilee

King Charles III has asked for the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative to be extended into the spring of next year to allow people to turn it into a memorial for his mother.

The canopy was set up to get people to ”plant a tree for the Jubilee” with tens of thousands of saplings settled into the soil to provide a lasting legacy for the reign of Elizabeth II.

Now, The King has requested that it continue until the end of March 2023 so that people can plant a tree in remembrance of Her Late Majesty. It was due to come to an end in December, as the Platinum Jubilee year concluded.

However, tree planting season traditionally runs from October until March and now the canopy will continue until spring 2023 as a tribute to Elizabeth II. People can also gift trees as a memoriam to Her Late Majesty.

The canopy began at the start of October 2022 when Queen Elizabeth II and her eldest son planted a sapling on the Balmoral estate.

Members of the Royal Family planted trees around the UK and the world in the following months as the canopy began to spread.

When tree planting season came to an end, over a million trees had been planted for the Jubilee. Individuals, organisations and businesses all joined in.

As the change was announced, the Queen’s Green Canopy noted that ”The extension of the QGC initiative will build on this legacy and serve as a lasting tribute to Her Majesty’s extraordinary service to her country and her people.”
