The Crown Jewels will be going on tour after the Coronation – in a rather unusual form.
An immersive light and music show will project the famous gems on to the sides of landmarks around the UK.
The spectacle starts at the Tower of London this autumn and will make its way around the country after that. As well as projecting the Crown Jewels on to famous buildings, the show will cover the history of coronations.
It has been developed by Historic Royal Palaces, which looks after the Tower, and Luxmuralis.
As the display was announced, the Culture Secretary, Lucy Frazer, said ”Every part of the United Kingdom should have a chance to see and feel the joy of the Coronation, and this giant light projection will give communities the chance to see precious centuries-old Royal treasures up close over the next year.”
A full calendar of show dates will be announced shortly.
The Coronation takes place on May 6th 2023 at Westminster Abbey. King Charles III will be the fortieth monarch to be crowned at the ancient church since the Norman Conquest.
