Why Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite royal handbags still have an important place in the Palace

The late Queen Elizabeth II was known for several style staples. Her Rachel Trevor Morgan hats and her Fulton umbrellas were her go-to choices for several decades. Her Traviata handbag from Launer London has been the royal handbag for years and it looks like the brand will not be losing its position as the favourite any time soon.

Queen Elizabeth first awarded a Royal Warrant to Launer London in 1968, with the last Royal Warrant being given in 2022. In that year, the famous handbag got one of its most famous outings as it had a vital role in the famous Paddington sketch Her Late Majesty performed at the Platinum Jubilee.

Queen Camilla has now continued the tradition and granted the British leather goods house a Royal Warrant, as well.

Camilla has her own history with the heritage firm, though, choosing different styles.

In 2005, she chose a clutch from Launer when she married the then-Prince of Wales at Windsor Guildhall.

Queen Camilla also fittingly carried the Tosca clutch handbag in black to Queen Elizabeth’s funeral on 19 September 2022. At a 2020 visit to the factory in Walsall, Her Majesty was also given the Judi bag, a smaller version of the beloved Traviata.

Launer London was founded in the early 1940s; the house set out to make high quality leather goods despite war-time restrictions. The firm quietly established itself as a firm royal favourite and has grown its fanbase everywhere.
