The Queen’s Reading Room will be lending a hand by providing support for a government initiative next year.
Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has shared that 2026 will officially be a National Year of Reading in the United Kingdom.
The government- in partnership with the Literacy Trust- is hoping that the campaign will “inspire thousands of community reading champions, welcome millions of new library members, and help businesses champion reading in their workplaces and communities.”
The Queen’s Reading Room is joining several major literacy organisations in supporting the campaign, including Arts Council England, The Reading Agency, and World Book Day.
Queen Camilla began her book club in early 2021 as a way for people to connect during lock down and times of limited in-person meetings.
The charity now has several focuses. In addition to hosting four seasons of the online book club each year, TQRR hosts an annual literary festival that brings authors and readers together.
The organisation is also exploring the relationship between reading and the brain, with a neuroscientific study beginning important research.
This year, Queen Camilla will award the inaugural The Queen’s Reading Room Medal, a new prize that highlights the work of individuals in their communities.
