Remembrance Sunday is an important annual event on the royal calendar, with most working members of the Royal Family attending the ceremony each November. The Princess of Wales was able to attend the ceremony and stood with The Duchess of Edinburgh on the central balcony, both wearing meaningful pieces of jewellery.Â
In addition to three poppies in honour of her great-great uncles who died in the First World War, The Princess of Wales chose two significant pieces of jewellery.
Catherine wore her badge of the 1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards; she was made their Colonel-in-Chief in August 2023.
Her Royal Highness also chose a sentimental pair of earrings, the Bahrain Pearl Drop Earrings. The then-Princess Elizabeth received seven pearls as a wedding gift from Bahrain in 1947 and chose to make them into a pair of earrings. They feature round diamond studs, baguette and round suspended diamonds with pearl drops.
Queen Elizabeth first loaned them to Catherine in 2016 for Remembrance Sunday and she has worn them several times since, including at Prince Philip’s 2021 funeral.Â
The Duchess of Edinburgh also paired her poppies with a regimental badge, that of the Royal Irish Regiment. With pearls the theme of the day, Sophie wore a single-strand pearl necklace and a pair of pearl and diamond stud earrings.
Queen Camilla was unable to attend the Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph due to a chest infection.
