Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary host soirée at Christianborg Palace for Danish government officials

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary have returned to Denmark following their short visit to New York City.

Once back on home soil, they quickly resumed their normal work, hosting a function on behalf of Queen Margrethe, who is in isolation with COVID.

The Crown Prince Couple and Princess Benedikte welcomed 350 guests to the Great Hall in Christianborg Palace for the formal evening party on 23 September. The soirée is a regular tradition that dates back to 1958.

Members of the government, the Danish parliament and Danish members of the European Parliament made the guest list for the event. The party was part of Queen Margrethe’s ongoing Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Unfortunately, the 82-year-old Queen was unable to attend as she is isolated at Fredensborg Palace, north of Copenhagen, after contracting COVID-19 earlier this week. The monarch is triple-vaccinated and also had the virus earlier in February. She is said to be experiencing “normal symptoms.”

The 50-year-old Crown Princess was dressed to impress in a one-shoulder pink gown with a purple belt by Danish-born designer David Anderson. The gorgeous dress has been in the royal mum-of-four’s closet for over a decade. She debuted it at the wedding reception of Prince Albert and Princess Charlene in Monaco in 2011 and has worn it several times since. The Crown Prince, 54, wore a black tux.

Guests were treated to a three-course dinner before being invited to enjoy entertainment or a whirl around the dance floor.

The royal hosts also joined in on the fun, taking part in Les Lanciers, a square dance performed by four groups of couples that was made popular during the 18th and 19th centuries.

Just one day earlier, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess had been representing Denmark in the US. The pair travelled to New York on 20 September to attend the United Nations 77th annual opening of the General Assembly.

During the trip, they attended several events related to causes close to their heart, including sustainability and climate change. The working trip ended with Denmark launching a bid for a seat on the UN Security Council in 2025-2026.
