BREAKING: Boris Johnson to resign as Prime Minister

Boris Johnson has informed Her Majesty The Queen that he is to resign as Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Her Majesty, who has recently returned to Windsor Castle after spending the week at Sandringham, will soon appoint the 15th Prime Minister of her reign.

Mr Johnson has effectively been forced out of office after he lost the support of his own Conservative Party MPs.

The Johnson government has been plagued by scandal for many months, with unlawful parties taking place, allegations of misleading The Queen, and numerous MPs embroiled in sexual harassment allegations.

Mr Johnson’s response and narrative to these scandals have seen him lose the support of his MPs, many of them previously loyal after he won an 80 seat majority in the 2019 General Election.

It is unclear who will replace Boris Johnson as Prime Minister. Likely front runners include former Defence Secretary Penny Mordant, Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi and former Health Secretary Sajid Javid.
