
King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden surprised Queen Silvia with a sweet gift to mark her 80th birthday and their 48th wedding anniversary.Â
The Swedish Royal House shared an image on Instagram on June 19th of the Swedish king giving his queen a single red rose in front of guests. Queen Silvia looked incredibly happy with her simple gift.Â
The weekend was a significant occasion for Queen Silvia, as the couple hosted two days of events to celebrate her 80th birthday. On 15 June, they held a large dinner for 275 guests at Stockholm Castle to formally celebrate with friends and family. On 16 June, they held another smaller event on one of the Norwegian royal ships and then a smaller family birthday dinner.
June 19th 2024 marked the couples 48th wedding anniversary. German Silvia Sommerlath met the then-Crown Prince Carl Gustaf of Sweden in 1972 during the Olympic Games. The couple dated until March 1976 when they announced their engagement and married on 19 June of that year.Â
King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia have three children together: Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip, and Princess Madeleine. The King celebrated his Golden Jubilee marking 50 years on the throne in 2023.
