Sweden’s King Carl Gustaf gets gardening tops from top TV star

The King of Sweden has embraced the summer and headed out to the garden this weekend with a visit to a new exhibition at Solliden Palace.

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia were at the Swedish Royal Family’s summer residence to visit a new garden installation. Gardener John Taylor has created a new exhibition “Idea Garden 2024” with the new theme of “Find the joy- an allotment garden for all”.

Taylor is a well-known gardener in Sweden and has published many books, as well as hosting television shows. He gave the royal couple a tour of the new gardens and shared some of his favourite parts.

Queen Silvia chose an appropriately blue and green floral day dress for their visit on Saturday.

The exhibition has been staged on King Gustaf V’s former croquet grounds; Gustaf was King of Sweden from 1907 until 1950. This is the tenth anniversary of Solliden hosting a public garden exhibition.

In addition to showing Taylor’s unique garden designs, the exhibition also explores the history of allotment gardens in Sweden. It will be open until 29 September 2024.

King Carl Gustaf privately owns Solliden Palace, a castle on the island of Öland, the second-largest Swedish island.
