In a new interview with Swedish magazine Mama, Princess Madeleine revealed that she was having contractions during her brother, Prince Carl Philip’s June 2015 wedding to Sofia Hellqvist (now Princess Sofia). Two days later, her son, Prince Nicolas was born.
The Princess said she was having contractions all day and was three centimetres dilated all while wearing a tiara and gown to watch her older brother wed. Madeleine said she kept hoping her water wouldn’t break during the ceremony.
During the ceremony, other members of the family – including doting aunt and godmother Crown Princess Victoria and uncle Prince Daniel – were seen holding one-year-old Princess Leonore during the ceremony to help out Madeleine and her husband, Chris O’Neill.
She also revealed that Prince Daniel was a huge help to her during the wedding by taking care of Leonore but also during the reception when he, who was seated next to her, helped distract her during her contractions.
Princess Madeleine also revealed that all three of her children were surprises. She shared one story ahead of her finding out she was pregnant with Princess Adrienne (who was born in 2018). For her husband’s birthday, she surprised him with a card that said, “Congratulations on the new family member.” Madeleine explained that Chris was shocked and asked if she was pregnant, to which she replied no; she was getting him a dog for his birthday. Little did she know, two weeks later she would find out she was expecting for the third time.

Her three children were all easy babies who slept through the night by the time they were one and two months old, according to the Princess who added that overall she had easy pregnancies.
Mama magazine is on stands now in Sweden and features a 44 page spread in their exclusive interview with Princess Madeleine. It features her with her three children, Princess Leonore (5), Prince Nicolas (4), and Princess Adrienne (1). The family resides in Florida.
