Princess Madeleine and husband give first joint interview

In a recent television appearance that aired on December 11, Swedish Princess Madeleine and her British-American banker husband, Chris O’Neill, gave their first joint interview.

Princess Madeleine recalled her childhood and how she was never fond of the attention given to her; speaking on the Norwegian-Swedish talk show “Skavlan”. The 33-year-old princess told of how she would hide during family portraits, only for her parents to drag her in for the photo sessions.

“My poor parents always got a headache when we were having family photos or something like that. I always ran away,” Princess Madeleine recalled.

Speaking to television host Federick Skavlan, Madeleine went further into detail about how she would scream as another way to be out of the portraits.

Now a mother of two children, she revealed that she still does not “like being the centre of attention” and has issues with speaking to the press and living her life in the public eye. Madeleine readily admitted that she is very shy and not herself in front of people, photographers and journalists, saying:

“I’ve had this all my life. One would think, and maybe expect, that I’d be comfortable in front of people, photographers and journalists who ask questions, “But I’m really not, I’m quite shy.”

“But I’m really not, I’m quite shy.”

Adding on: “I don’t like being the centre of attention. But as an official person as I am, this is something I have to deal with. I’m struggling with it. I’m working on it. I’m here today!”

She pointed out that although she does not like being the centre of attention, she has to deal with it often in her official capacity and it is a struggle that she is working on. However, Madeleine was able to laugh at herself, pointing out that she did make it to the show and is currently conducting one of those interviews she just said she doesn’t like.

The show also featured British singer Adele and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

As it comes to no surprise, Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill spend their time away from the spotlight raising their two children, Princess Leonore and Prince Nicolas in London due to Chris’ job.

Just last week the couple did make an appearance at the Nobel Prize Banquet at Stockholm’s City Hall on Thursday evening, alongside the rest of Madeleine’s family.
