Man tries to prevent Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel from leaving Church after blocking the exit

In recent months, the Swedish royal family has travelled across Sweden to see how the country is handling the still-ongoing public health crisis and the challenges that are still faced. Last week, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel visited Skåne, the Duchy of their son, Prince Oscar. The visit went very well, however, it has since emerged that an incident occurred that could have endangered the visit.

The Crown Princess and Prince Daniel were in the southern Swedish city of Malmö and had just been to an event in St. Petri Church. As the royals were due to leave the church, a man appeared in the aisle of the building. He knelt in front of the royals and has a message written on his t-shirt. The man was detained by police until the royals left the church. As the protest was relatively undramatic and non-threatening, he was then released.

The man was only a few meters away from the royal party. On the front of the man’s t-shirt it said “release political child prisoners in Cuba”, while on the back it said, “help me save my family in Cuba”. The man was quickly and efficiently removed by the police.

Communications manager at the Swedish royal court, Margareta Thorgren, said: “When the visit to the church was over, the exit was blocked by one person. The security police took care of the situation. They asked the man to move, which he did. By the way, the day in Malmö was good and interesting”.

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel looked unmoved by the incident and continued as if nothing had happened. Otherwise, the programme in Skåne was full of more enjoyable events. The royals first met with government and tourism representatives at the governor’s residence. The Crown Princess Couple then travelled to Skåne University Hospital to talk to the healthcare staff. The royal also visited Moderna Museum, Sorgenfris IP and Malmö Airport. The King and Queen Silvia were due to visit Jämtland County on 29 November, but it has been postponed until 2022 due to worsening health conditions across the globe.
