King Carl XVI Gustaf has asked the Royal Family to pay visits to each of Sweden’s 21 counties due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The idea for the visits came from the King who wants the family to show support for those impacted by the virus and draw attention to local initiatives. He also wants these trips to instil hope and confidence in the future.
Those who will be partaking in the visits to the counties will be the King, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia. The King and Queen’s youngest child, Princess Madeleine, and her husband, Chris O’Neill, live in Florida and are unable to be a part of the initiative.
The counties will be divided up amongst the Royal Family who will meet representatives from the healthcare sectors and the government.
The visits -taking place this autumn and the spring of 2021 – will abide by all social distancing guidelines recommended by the Swedish Public Health Agency.
More information, including dates for the trips, will be announced in due course.
