Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel start windswept visit to California

It was a blustery, windy start to Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel’s visit to San Francisco, but the pair carried out a series of engagements related to Swedes abroad and nature.

On Monday, the Swedish royal couple did what many tourists do in San Francisco: visited the Golden Gate Bridge and posed for pictures before visiting the Marine Mammal Center organisation for sustainability and conservation work around the marine world.

Afterwards, the couple hiked the Rodeo Beach Coastal Trailhead.

Later in the day, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel visited the Scandinavian School and Cultural Center, where Swedish language and customs are taught to students, to talk about Generation Pep, one of the funds supported by the Crown Princess Couple’s Foundation.

According to a Facebook post by the Scandinavia School and Cultural Center, the students—ranging in age from 13 to 20—“had prepared some questions for Their Royal Highnesses, The Crown Princess Victoria & Prince Daniel of Sweden and one of the questions was about the sports that Prince Daniel favors at the moment.”

Later in the day, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel visited the Church of Sweden congregation in San Francisco for a reception and to meet Swedes living in the area.

At the reception, Crown Princess Victoria gave a speech where she said a key part of any visit abroad is to meet “the local Swedish colony.

“You Swedes abroad are all ambassadors for our country and you are all important pieces of the puzzle in the work to strengthen the ties between countries.”

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel will continue their California visit through Thursday, focusing on “innovation, green transition and emerging technologies with a focus on artificial intelligence,” according to the Royal Court’s website.

Crown Princess Victoria added in her speech that: “Sweden and the USA are both global leaders in innovation. And California in particular is a unique gathering place for innovation and technological development. This place has a prominent role in the green transition—which is so important and meaningful to us all.”

Tuesday’s engagements saw the Crown Princess Couple meet California Governor Gavin Newsom; officially open the Swedish Consulate General in San Francisco; and carry out engagements in both San Francisco and Sacramento in relation to AI.
