Crown Princess Couple of Sweden conclude Vietnam visit

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel had a busy three days during their Vietnam visit from 6 May to 8 May. The trip was planned to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Sweden and Vietnam.

During their first day in Hanoi, the Crown Princess Couple had lunch with prominent Vietnamese women at the Hotel Metropole. Hotel Metropole is located where the Swedish Embassy was located when it was first established in 1969. Afterwards, they attended an official meeting with Mrs Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, the Vice President of Vietnam. The couple then had a busy afternoon. They visited Ho Chi Minh’s house which is located at the back of the Presidential Palace before meeting with students at upper secondary school Thuc Nghiem to discuss the challenges young people face in Vietnam. They also met with Mrs Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, the President of the National Assembly. In the evening, they attended an official dinner held by the Vice-President at the Presidential Palace.

The second day in Hanoi was focused on the Sweden-Vietnam Business Summit that was held during the trip. In the morning, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel attended the opening session of the summit, and the Crown Princess made a speech. After the end of the meeting, the Crown Princess Couple joined the Swedish delegation on the 68th floor of the Lotte Hotel where they had the opportunity to eat a Vietnamese lunch. During the lunch, they met with the Swedish Embassy Staff based in Hanoi.

The couple separated in the afternoon with Prince Daniel attending more sessions of the Sweden-Vietnam Business Summit and Crown Princess Victoria attending events related to her UN engagement. She first visited the Green One UN House; the building was built in 2014 with environmentally conscious materials and designed to operate efficiently. The Crown Princess took part in a tour of the house and learned more about the UN’s work in Vietnam. She also visited the Phu Vinh Craft Village for Green Production and Trade. In the evening, the Crown Princess Couple attended the official dinner for the Sweden-Vietnam Business Summit by Hanoi’s Mayor Nguyen Duc King.

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel started their third and last day in Vietnam very early as they visited Ly Thai Two Square and Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi where residents perform morning activities. They also visited the Temple of Jade Mountain and the wooden bridge Welcoming Morning Sunlight Bridge. Afterwards, they travelled to Ho Chi Minh City for the last part of their trip. The first took a boat trip on the Saigon River which gave them the opportunity to learn about how the city works with supply, planning, pollution and plastic in the water.

In the afternoon, the couple met with young Vietnamese entrepreneurs before meeting with Nguyen Thanh Phong, Ho Chi Minh City’s Mayor. The last event of the trip was an official dinner held by the Mayor in the Crown Princess Couple’s honour.
