King Felipe marks start of judicial year with all eyes on his tails

King Felipe of Spain turned to his tails for an important event on the Spanish royal calendar.

On Thursday, 5 September, King Felipe oversaw the formal opening of the official 2024/2025 Judicial year in Spain.

His Majesty was welcomed to the Tribunal Superior de Justicia by new President of the General Council of the Judiciary and Supreme Court Isabel Perelló and looked to be in a good mood as he chatted with her as they walked in.

Earlier in the morning, Perelló formally pledged herself to King Felipe at the Palace of Zarzuela as she begins her tenure in this new role.

As it is a formal event, King Felipe wore a full tailcoat to the opening with all required ceremonial wear, quite a change from his casual summer wear from the last months.

The King of Spain listened intently throughout as the session was opened and the Secretary of Government, Ángel Tomás Ruano, and the Attorney General of the State, Álvaro García Ortíz shared the court’s annual report covering court activity, information and statistics on crime, and upcoming plans.

King Felipe played a specific role in the ceremony. After the annual report was read, The Spanish King formally opened the court’s new session for 2024/2025.
