Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette Marit of Norway have received Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for a private audience.
The Crown Prince and Crown Princess received the Ukrainian President at the Royal Palace in Oslo on March 20. The couple welcomed the President of Ukraine back to Norway and chatted in English before taking a photograph together.
President Zelenskyy also met the Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, as well as other members of the government. He visited the Norwegian Parliament later in the day; the President of Parliament, Masud Gharahkhani, welcomed him.
The Norwegian royals are not the first to welcome the Ukrainian President since the row in the White House with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. King Charles III met Vlodomyr Zelenskyy at Sandringham on March 2, the same day that the President of Ukraine attended a European summit of leaders in London to discuss ongoing support.
On 6 March, King Philippe of the Belgians held a private audience with President Zelenskyy at the Royal Palace in Brussels.
In 2023, President Zelenskyy met with King Harald, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit where he expressed Ukraine’s appreciation of Norwegian support during the ongoing war with Russia.
