The eldest son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, Marius Borg Høiby, has been arrested on suspicion of rape.
Borg Høiby, 27, was detained on Monday evening near Skaugum on the charge of “sexual intercourse with someone who is unconscious or for other reasons unable to resist the act”.
It is understood that charges were brought by the police, not the woman concerned. Borg Høiby denies the allegations.
He is currently being held at a detention centre in Oslo.
Marius Borg Hoiby is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marot from a prior relationship. He was first arrested in August on suspicion of causing bodily harm to an unnamed woman. Borg Hoiby was also arrested on 15 September for violating the restraining order put in place around the woman concerned.
Crown Prince Haakon, Marius Borg Hoiby’s stepfather, has previously declined to comment publicly on the legal issues, stating that there is an ongoing investigation. The Crown Prince has just arrived in Jamaica for an official visit.
It was reported that the Crown Prince had taken Borg Høiby to rehab in early November. The Norwegian Royal Family did not publicly confirm or deny that.
Earlier this autumn, there were also reports that items had gone missing from the home of the Crown Prince and Princess after a party held there by Borg Hoiby.
