King Harald and his heir keep Christmas tradition in turbulent times

King Harald of Norway has been joined by Crown Prince Haakon for a solemn but meaningful annual tradition.

The King of Norway and his heir attended an annual service at Oslo Cathedral held for the employees, security guards and office workers of His Majesty Guard.

This service is held each year at the beginning of the holiday season and features performances of several different pieces of music.

King Harald used canes when walking into the service; the 87 year old monarch has faced several health issues over the last few years. However, both His Majesty and His Royal Highness appeared to be in good spirits at the service.

The Norwegian Royal Family has faced serious controversy in recent months with no signs of it abating in the near future.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s son from a previous relationship, Marius Borg Høiby, is facing significant legal issues. At the beginning of August 2024, he was arrested on a charge of assault. In the subsequent months, more police investigations have unfolded including allegations of rape which he denies.
