Crown Princess Mette-Marit extends sick leave amidst controversy around her family

Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s sick leave has been extended amidst the growing scandal swirling around her eldest son Marius.

In a brief statement, the Norwegian Royal Court shared on Wednesday that the future queen will be on sick leave until 5 November “due to side effects of the medicines the Crown Princess must take for her chronic lung disease.”

The Court had previously announced that Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who was diagnosed with chronic pulmonary fibrosis in 2018, had resumed her treatments and would be on a sick leave due to the side effects of her medicine earlier in October.

And amidst her ongoing health problems, it has now emerged that Crown Princess Mette-Marit may have alerted her son, Marius Borg Høiby, that he was due to be arrested on 4 August, that she cleaned his apartment before the arrest, and that she drove him to meet the arresting officers.

According to VG, a Norwegian newspaper, Crown Princess Mette-Marit was involved in the events leading up to her son’s arrest, and now could be questioned by police for her role, according to NRK, another Norwegian broadcaster.

Adding further fuel to the fire, it’s also been reported that Marius has been banned from the Skaugum apartment where his mother and stepfather live. In September, news came to light that royal trinkets had gone missing after Marius threw a wild party at the residence.

Marius lives near the Crown Prince Couple’s home in Skaugum.
