Crown Prince Haakon takes online coronavirus briefing from Norway’s health authorities

Since the outbreak of coronavirus, we have heard a lot about King Harald and Queen Sonja. They had to spend a long period in quarantine after having come home from their state visit to Jordan. King Harald has also spoken to the people via letters and on TV.

However, little has been heard about Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette Marit. On Friday, the Norwegian people could hear from both of them. Crown Princess Mette Marit posted several photos on her Instagram account and a greeting to the people. Crown Prince Haakon was at work that day and received a briefing from the Norwegian health authorities.

Crown Prince Haakon attended the Health Directorate’s Friday forum today. There he met the managers and some of the employees, through a video conferencing.

His Royal Highness message to the health-workers was: “On behalf of us others in the Norwegian society, I would like to say thank you for the effort you all make.  In crises, the information picture is often incomplete. Therefore, it is incredibly important that we have competent people like you who sit and give good advice in a situation like this.”

Norway’s Directorate of Health is a key player in the fight against the coronavirus. The agency provides advice to the authorities and disseminates information to the population. Health Director Bjørn Guldvog welcomed His Royal Highness, also via video, before the Crown Prince received a briefing from Deputy Director Espen Nakstad and Division Director Linda Granlund.

The Crown Prince also said: “It is a special situation for everyone in Norway now. Everybody is affected by the measures taken. Of course, the decisions and measures that are implemented are of great importance. In addition, I think it is heavy on you. Nevertheless, at the same time, you should know that you have our support in the important job you do. We really appreciate your efforts. In addition, I think there is every reason to be proud of the important work you are doing at this time.”
