Crown Prince Haakon fronts out controversy at glittering engagement that his wife was meant to oversee

Crown Prince Haakon of Norway had a glamorous evening in Oslo on Thursday, despite having to go solo for the evening.

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit were originally scheduled to take part in an on-stage discussion with Canadian author Margaret Atwood at the Oslo Opera House.

However, the Crown Princess has extended her sick leave while undergoing treatment for pulmonary fibrosis, a chronic lung condition.  Although she was unable to attend the evening, the Crown Prince still attended.

The Crown Princess has chosen to focus on literacy through attending different events and supporting literacy-related organisations.

Hosted at the Oslo Opera House, Crown Prince Haakon attended the event instead of his wife. He was all smiles as he entered the event.

Atwood was joined on stage by journalist Karen Haugen for the English language event. Over a thousand attendees were able to enjoy the author discussing her novels and poetry.

Atwood is known for her dystopian novel, The Handmaid’s Tale, which has been made into a film, a television series, and a ballet, as well as her other novels like Alias Grace and the Madd Addam trilogy.

The Norwegian Crown Prince was asked by journalists about the ongoing situation with his stepson, Marius Borg Høiby, and his ongoing legal issues. He told them ” understand that there are many questions about this… There is an ongoing police investigation, I do not think it is right to say so much about individual elements.
