Princess Mabel attends marriage of her wedding dress designer Rolf Snoeren

Princess Mabel of Orange, widow of Prince Friso, has attended the marriage of her wedding dress designer and close friend, Rolf Snoeren from the designer duo Viktor and Rolf. The sister-in-law of King Willem-Alexander attended the union which took place in Amsterdam on Friday.

On Friday, Rolf Snoeren and his American partner Brandon wed in a civil ceremony in Amsterdam. The couple has been together for over five years. Being a close friend of Rolf, Princess Mabel of Orange took part in the celebrations.

The designer duo Viktor and Rolf created Princess Mabel’s extraordinary wedding dress (with 250 bows!) when she wed Prince Friso in 2004. The pair also designed Princess Mabel’s dress that she wore at the remembrance service for her husband who passed away after a ski incident. The fact that the bond of Mabel and Viktor & Rolf is very close was once again demonstrated when she opened an exhibition about the 25th anniversary of the designers just months ago.

After the wedding, the guests including Princess Mabel took part in a boat tour in the canals of Amsterdam. The guests then headed to the reception location close to Central Station.

At midnight, there was another reason to party as Princess Mabel celebrates her 50th birthday today. It is not clear how Princess Mabel has been celebrating the occasion, but the festivities are private in any case. The Princess earlier said that she was going to celebrate the day with her daughters, Luana and Zaria, her family and all those who are close to her.

There is however also a shadow side to this weekend full of celebrations. On Sunday, it will be exactly five years since Mabel’s husband, Prince Friso, died after his ski accident in Lech, Austria.

About her 50th birthday, Mabel of Orange said: “I’m looking back at 50 years full of great joy and deep grief, tough lessons and beautiful successes, warm friendships and true love.”
