Prince Albert awarded the Jane Alexander Global Wildlife Ambassador

Prince Albert of Monaco has always been very much involved in the fight for conservation and against climate change. Now his work will be recognised with the Jane Alexander Award.

The prize is named after the United States conservationist and actress Jane Alexander, who was a pioneer in using her name and fame to advocate for conservation and is awarded to people who use their influence to support wildlife and their voice to empower others to do the same.

The Jane Alexander Global Wildlife Ambassador Award will be handed out in a ceremony on the 25th of September during the Indianapolis Prize Gala in Indiana.

In a press release, Prince Albert has thanked the committee for the high honour and declared that this prize would encourage him to keep fighting on these topics, saying: “It will help me fulfill my obligations and my contributions to the conservation of the oceans, the conservation of coral reefs and marine protected areas, and to strive to protect endangered marine species.”

In 2006, Prince Albert established his foundation, with the aim of promoting marine and environmental conservation, focussing specifically on environmental problems in developing countries around the world, and issues in the polar region and the Mediterranean Sea – the latter being of the utmost importance to the sovereign since the Principality of Monaco is only 2.02 square kilometres and is facing the Mediterranean coast.

The environment and its conservation is a topic so close to Prince Albert’s heart that as soon as Princess Charlene officially entered the family upon marrying him in 2011, she got involved in fighting for this cause at Albert’s side.

She is still in South Africa recovering from an ear, nose and throat infection and the subsequent surgeries she had to undergo to treat it. She had returned to her native country to carry out several conservation projects through her foundation, which speaks of the entire family’s interest in conservation and the future of our planet
