Luxembourg is counting down to a new Grand Duke and there are now striking portraits of the ruler to be

Ahead of Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg’s abdication in October, new portraits of his soon to be successor, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie have been released.

The portraits are by artist Jacques Schneider who took to social media to share the images. He has created two portraits of Guillaume, one portrait of Stephanie, and one joint portrait.

He also shared several manipulated versions of the portraits, including some in the Pop Art style with a blue focus on some and a green focus on others, drawing on the couple’s clothing choices.

With the photos, he shared that the couple were able to pose for him and were able to help him with the colour composition.

Grand Duke Henri will be officially abdicating on 3 October, and the transition will be celebrated with three days of events. Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume will then be sworn in and officially take on the role of sovereign.

The Grand Ducal Family has celebrated Grand Duke Henri’s Silver Jubilee this summer with many different events.

Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie have two children; Prince Charles was born on 10 May 2020 and Prince Francois on 27 March 2023. Charles, now 5, will be the youngest heir in Europe when his father takes the Grand Ducal throne.
