The Grand Duke of Luxembourg has announced celebrations for his Silver Jubilee – even though he will actually abdicate before completing twenty five years on the throne.
Grand Duke Henri will enjoy three days of celebrations for a quarter of a century of rule in June this year. However, he actually doesn’t complete the 25 years until October 8 this year. And by then, he will have given up his throne.
The jubilee celebrations, which include concerts, a Te Deum church service and a fireworks show, take place between 21 and 23 June 2025.
They will mark 25 years for Grand Duke Henri who announced on Christmas Eve that he will step aside in favour of his eldest son, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, on October 3 2025, just five days short of the actual anniversary of his reign.
For the announcement, Grand Duke Henri’s wife, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, wore a special family tiara.

The Grand Duchess wore the Belgian Scroll Tiara for a special jubilee portrait.Â
The tiara was a wedding present to her mother in law, Princess Josephine Charlotte of Belgium. She received it when she married the future Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg in 1953.
This versatile, diamond tiara has over 850 diamonds set in platinum. The central diamond is over 8 carats and can be removed and worn separately. The central piece of the tiara can also be used as a brooch.Â
Josephine Charlotte loved the tiara and wore it to her own wedding reception. She also wore it for important events including Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation at Westminster Abbey that year. She wore it frequently throughout her life, often reaching for the diadem for state events.
Following in her mother-in-law’s footsteps, Grand Duchess Maria Teresa has also worn the Belgian Scroll Tiara many times over, including for several official portraits.
