Queen Margrethe taken to hospital after fall

Queen Margrethe is in hospital after a fall at her home.

The queen, who is 84, was taken to the Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen on Wednesday evening after falling at Fredernsborg Castle.

The royal court said she was ‘doing well under the circumstances’ but remains in hospital for observation.

The fall came after a day of engagements for the queen which saw her open a multiple sclerosis centre in Copenhagen.

Her upcoming events have been cancelled. She was set to take part in events marking an anniversary at the University of Aarhus on September 20th but that is now shelved.

Margrethe II abdicated the throne in favour of her elder son, King Frederik X, on January 14th 2024, the 52nd anniversary of her reign.
