Queen Margrethe cancels holiday because of health issue

Queen Margrethe of Denmark has had to cancel her private holiday due to health issues.

The Danish monarch will no longer visit Gausdal, Norway, after having to pull out of the opening of an exhibition at the National Museum in Copenhagen due to back problems.

A statement from the Danish Royal Court said: “Her Majesty The Queen has cancelled her private stay in Norway due to problems with her back. It also means that the Crown Prince was in charge of today’s public audience at Christiansborg Palace.”

As the Crown Prince Couple are scheduled to be on a winter holiday, Prince Joachim was due to act as regent while the Queen was on holiday from 7 February to 13 February. However, that will no longer be necessary.

Queen Margrethe has a close relationship with Norway. Each winter, the Queen travels to Gausdal, where she spends around two weeks in the area located over three and a half hours from Oslo.

In the past, Queen Margrethe has described her passion for the mountains of Skeikampen, where she has spent a lot of time.

In an interview, the Danish Queen said: “There were mountains on mountains, it was white, and it was magnificent. I lost my heart with a big splash! It must be up there yet. And I have to come to Norway almost every year to find it again.”
