Queen Margrethe II of Denmark has attended her first engagement after being hospitalised for a fall in mid-September.
The former Danish monarch presented the Ebbe Munck Honorary Award at Christiansborg Castle on Tuesday. The ceremony took place in the Velvet Room, an ornate room with high ceilings that served as the Throne Room for the Danish sovereign until 1933.Â
Queen Margrethe presented the award to Margrethe Vestager. Vestager has been Denmark’s representative as Competition Commissioner and Senior Vice-President of the European Commission for over a decade.
Queen Margrethe is the patron of the Ebbe Munck Memorial Fund that awards the honour each year. Ebbe Munck was a Danish journalist and resistance fighter during the Second World War. The award suitably honours the work of a diplomat, journalist, or a resistance fighter.Â
Margrethe looked to be in good spirits as she presented the award. She chose a light blue skirt suit for the event and paired it with a black quilted handbag.
Queen Margrethe chose to abdicate in January 2024 in favour of her son, now King Frederik X. She has continued to carry out engagements since her abdication. However, in mid-September she slipped and fell at home, and was then hospitalised. She was released within a few days but was on bedrest following.
