Prince Joachim leaves hospital after brain surgery

Prince Joachim of Denmark is back with his family after being discharged from hospital in France where he underwent emergency brain surgery.

The younger son of Queen Margrethe was given the go ahead to return to his holiday residence, the Chateau of Cayx, on August 3rd 2020, ten days after he was rushed in for treatment after falling ill.

Joachim, who is 51, underwent surgery on a blood clot on his brain soon after admission on July 24th 2020. The prince remained in intensive care for several days following hte procedure.

His wife, Princess Marie, has been with him throughout his hospital stay.

The sixth in line to the Danish throne was treated at the University Hospital of Toulouse. Joachim and Marie have offered their thanks to all those who cared for the prince during his time in hospital.

The Danish Royal Family has asked that Joachim be left to recuperate in peace.
