Portraits of a prince on the brink of adulthood

As the Danish Royal Family prepares for a future king to reach his majority, brand new photos have been shared to mark the occasion.

Prince Christian, eldest child of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, turns 18 in October and a series of new portraits of the second in line to the throne have been released as fresh details of events marking his milestone were announced.

On his 18th birthday, October 15th 2023, Prince Christian will make a balcony appearance at Frederik VIII’s Palace in Copenhagen. He will be joined by his grandmother, Queen Margrethe II, as well as his parents. It is expected that his siblings – Princess Isabella, 16, and 12 year old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine – will also be there.

In the evening, Queen Margrethe will host a special gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace in honour of her grandson. Hundreds of young people from across Denmark as well as Greenland and the Faroe Islands will be on the guest list.

In November 2023, Prince Christian will attend a Council of State for the first time where he will pledge his intention to comply with the constitution of Denmark. From that point onwards, he may act as Head of State.

Christian Valdemar Henri John was born on October 15th 2005 in Copenhagen.
