Danish Court releases new official photos of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie

On 1 July, the Danish court released three new official photographs of Prince Joachim and Princess Marie. The three photographs were taken Steen Brogaard. There was no special occasion for the release of the photos but the Court said: “Regular photos of the Royal Family members are regularly taken. The images are used by the Royal Family and by Their Royal Highnesses’s patronages.”

The portraits were taken earlier at Amalienborg Palace where both Prince Joachim and Princess Marie have their offices. The photos released are a joint picture of the couple as well as solo portraits. Prince Joachim wore his military uniform and Princess Marie wore the burgundy gown that she first wore during the gala banquet for the French state visit in August 2018 and her diamond floral tiara. They are also both wearing the Order of the Elephant, the highest Danish order.

Prince Joachim married French-born Marie Cavallier on 24 May 2008 in Møgeltønder Church. Together, they have two children: Prince Henrik (b. 4 May 2009) and Princess Athena (b. 24 January 2012). Princess Marie became a Danish citizen and converted from Roman Catholicism to the Lutheran Church of Denmark in connection with the union. From his first marriage to Alexandra Manley, Prince Joachim has two sons: Prince Nikolai (b. 28 August 1999) and Prince Felix (b. 22 July 2002).

Prince Joachim is Colonel of the Defense and works as a special advisor to the Chief of Defense as well as with the Reserve.

His Royal Highness Prince Joachim Holger Waldemar Christian of Denmark is the second child of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and her late husband, Prince Henrik. He was born on 7 June 1969 at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. He celebrated his 50th birthday last month with a charity concert and gala dinner hosted by his mother Queen Margrethe.
