Crown Prince Frederik to accompany Queen Margrethe on State Visit to Germany

Queen Margrethe will undertake her first outgoing State Visit following the global pandemic in November when she travels to Germany accompanied by her son.

The Queen and Crown Prince Frederik will officially visit Germany from 10-13 November, with the bulk of engagements taking place in Berlin, though Queen Margrethe will carry out solo engagements in Munich.

The Danish Royal House said that the state visit would promote business ties between the countries and build upon the celebrations last year of the “Danish-German Cultural Year of Friendship,” with agreements being made to partner on creative education in the arts and culture fields.

On 10 November, Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik will arrive in Berlin and meet with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Mrs Elke Büdenbender. They will attend an official lunch with the German Chancellor—elections take place in Germany later this month, so the new Chancellor’s identity is as yet unknown—and visit the Brandenburg Gate, as well as other locations.

In the evening, President Steinmeier will host a State Banquet at his residence in Berlin, Schloss Bellevue.

On 11 November, Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik will attend the opening of a significant business promotion in support of Denmark—one that focuses on “solutions within green energy, health, food and sustainable production,” according to the Danish Royal House.

Crown Prince Frederik will continue the work of promoting business between the neighbouring countries by attending parts of a Danish-German business seminar.

Queen Margrethe will continue on with the State Visit, travelling to the state of Bavaria and its capital city of Munich. Further details of Queen Margrethe and Crown Prince Frederik’s state visit will be announced in due course.

The Danish Royal House notes that this will be Queen Margrethe’s 55th outgoing state visit of her 49-year reign. Her last State Visit was in 2019 when she was accompanied by Crown Prince Frederik to Argentina.
