Yesterday, 15 of June, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark attended Royal Ascot Day 2 with members of the British Royal Family.
For the royal carriage procession, they rode in the third carriage with Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex. The Queen, Prince Philip, Prince William, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Anne, Timothy Lawrence, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, and Prince Charles were also in attendance. This was the first appearance for the Cambridges together at the race.
Showing no sign of exhaustion from a busy weekend and the christening of a new tanker ship, Stenaweco, at Langelinie Harbour in Copenhagen on Monday morning, The Crown Princess clearly enjoyed herself at the iconic British race wearing an orange Marc Jacobs dress with a nude fascinator. She was seen chatting with the Duchess of Cambridge after the carriage procession and before the race began. In the Royal Enclosure, she seemed to thoroughly enjoy the race, pulling faces and cheering as the horse race was going on alongside Catherine and Sophie.
Her husband, Crown Prince Frederik also appeared happy to be in the company of his distant British relatives. His mother, Queen Margrethe is third cousins with Queen Elizabeth. The Wessexes have gotten to know the Crown Prince couple quite well, as they are usually the British representatives at royal weddings around the world.
Royal Ascot began in 1711 when it was founded by Queen Anne. Over 300,000 make the trip to Berkshire annually during Royal Ascot week. It occurs every year in June and lasts for five days.
Later in the day, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge presented the Duke of Cambridge Stakes Trophy to Mickael Barzalona, the winning jockey. Princess Haya of Jordan’s horse won the Jersey Stakes with jockey, William Buick and trainer, Richard Fahey.
The former Mary Donaldson was born in Hobart, Australia, and met Crown Prince Frederik at the Slip Inn during the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. Their engagement was announced on 8 October 2003. They married on 14 May 2004 in Copenhagen Cathedral, in Copenhagen, Denmark. They have four children: Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Josephine, and Prince Vincent. Frederik was born on 26 May 1968 and is the eldest of Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik’s two sons. His younger brother is Prince Joachim.
