Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi visits Jordan as guest of the King

His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan hosted a visit on Tuesday from Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi at the Al Husseiniya Palace.

The Crown Prince is the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, but this was a meeting which celebrated the close ties between the two countries in a wide range of areas covering economic, political and development related fields. Reciprocal greetings were exchanged, including wishes to and from Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who leads the United Arab Emirates.

Both sides were keen to further cement the close ties between the two countries. The King expressed his gratitude at the involvement of the Emirates in some development projects as well as its support with more regional challenges including fighting terrorism and also support for the Palestinian cause and supporting the outcome of the 1967 agreement for an independent Palestinian state with its capital of East Jerusalem.

The meeting continued during a luncheon held in honour of the Crown Prince, and both retinues including His Royal Highness Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation of the UAE, as well as senior officials on both sides enjoyed the meal.

In honour of the historically close ties between the two nations, which have continued since the time of Sheikh Zayed and His Majesty the late King Hussein, King Abdullah bestowed on the Crown Prince the Order of Al Hussein bin Ali, the highest civilian medal in Jordan awarded to kings, princes and heads of state. This was not the only honour bestowed on Sheikh Mohammed. After the meeting, there was time for a presentation when the name of the Quick Reaction Brigade to the Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Brigade. The name change, not only reflected the deep brotherly ties between the two countries, but also the support the UAE gives to the Jordanian Armed Forces with military accommodation and training.
